A Curiously Telling Response

Hmmm...

Unlike the Roberts nomination — where the wingnuts were quite explicit about their glee, despite his relatively innocuous record — the right-wing lunatic fringe that makes up Duh-bya’s base is having a decidedly different reaction to Harriet Miers’s nomination.

They’re going apeshit.

I’m reluctant to draw any conclusions (especially given the obvious cronyism behind her nomination), but I’m finding it hard to think of this as anything other than a really good sign.

I've got a feeling she is in for a six-kinds-of-ugly confirmation hearing. This coming from a quasi-Republican.

As well she should. She's got absolutely no judicial record to go on, so unless she answers some serious questions about her judicial philosophy, I can't imagine too many folks lining up behind her. From either side of the aisle.

It's also worth noting that it's not just the wingnuts who are upset with this nomination, but mainstream conservatives as well. Though those objections are more along the lines of, "What, didn't you even bother to look for anyone qualified? You just turned around and said, 'Hey, Harriet, wanna be a Supreme Court justice?'"

But the outright hostility from the wingnuts still makes me a little bit happy.
